Switching Station. Built on site of a dene hole

Romano British cemetery with 326 burials and 235 cremations. Burials in wooden coffins and there also finds suggesting it was a Neolithic settlement.

Watling Street

New road built by KCC and opened by Prince of Wales in 1924 . . We descend Pepper Hill, which is over a mile long and has an easy gradient. Near the bottom the road passes under the bridge of the Southern Railway branch line from Gravesend.
