Hewitts Marked thus on a map of 1799 and on the Ordnance Survey map of 1876, earlier ‘Hewette’ 1268, or ‘Hewette’ 105, that is 'place where trees have been hewed or cut down, a Woodland clearing', from Old English ‘hiewet’.
