Basingstoke Canal

St John's Bridge rebuilt as an iron Girder Bridge in 1899.  Also called Kiln Bridge. Wharf for commercial use here which led to the growth of the community of St.John’s.

Rowbarge Pub. 

Kiln Bridge.Goldsworth brick kilns in this area from 1709 which expanded through the 18thand when the canal was built. They were run by the Jackman family of nursery men as a sideline. Later the brick pits were used as rubbish tips. They produced bright red bricks used in local buildings. Coal brought to the site from Somerset and Warwickshire via the canal. 

Hoe Stream

Drains the meadows of Worplesdon, Pirbright and Wanborough and feeds into the Wey eventually. Also called the Stanford Brook.

Hermitage Road

Crematorium. The Cremation Society was established in 1870 and bought this land in 1878 as an experimental site using dead animals.  Although there was a lot of opposition the corpse of a Mrs.Pickersgill was cremated here in 1885.  Rebuilt in 1889 in red brick and stone.

Hermitage Woods Crescent

Part of the Hermitage Woods Estate and built on the sie of the Hermitage which was an 18th building said to have been on the foundations of an earlier medieval house and said to belong to the Dominican Priory at Guildford.

Hook Heath Golf Course

Golf Club.  Prospective buyers of land at Hook Heath were offered golf club membership by the Necropolis Company.
