CanalCottage on Nutfield Marsh has a name whichstands as a reminder of various canal schemes  but it was  built in the late 17th centurythough modified later.These canal schemes had in common that theywould have passed through the marshes in thenorth of Nutfield Parish and through themarshy area we now know as Redhill. Fromthence The Weald could be reached byfollowing the brook which meanders throughEarlswood dodging the hills of the LowerGreensand.But it was all too near the railway age and these canal schemes never came to fruition
